Locust October 2025 Newsletter
Fall is here and the school year is underway! We’ve had a great start to the school year and hopefully everyone’s children have settled into their new school routines. Spirit week was a lot of fun and it ended with an exciting pep rally with visitors from the high school marching band and sports teams!
We hope everyone enjoyed Back to School Night. It was nice to see so many parents in the school, admiring the student work, meeting teachers, and connecting with old and new friends. The teachers shared informative presentations, and we are grateful for the work they do each day! Thank you to the class parents for organizing class lists and holding lotteries. We all appreciate your efforts in coordinating volunteers for crafts and field trips, and we thank you for communicating with families throughout the year.
Please join us on Friday, October 10th for the Fall Festival! The schoolyard will be set up with a lot of fun games and fall themed activities for the children. Families are invited to attend! First graders will attend the festival from 9:00-9:30am and Kindergarteners will attend from 10:00-10:30am. A huge thank you to our Family Fun Committee for planning the Fall Festival!
We have our first Locust PTA meeting scheduled for Friday, October 17th at 9:30am. We hope to see you there and there will be a zoom option for those who can not attend in person. There is also an All Schools PTA meeting on Wednesday, October 15th at 7:30 PM at the Middle School.
Unity Day is on October 22nd. Have your child wear orange to school to show that we are together against bullying and united for kindness, acceptance and inclusion!
On Friday, October 31st, children are invited to wear costumes to school to celebrate Locust’s Storybook Character Parade! It will be a fun day. Parents are invited to watch the children parade outside of the school at 9:45 AM.
The National PTA Reflections competition is underway! The theme is “I Belong!” and the final deadline for entries is November 5th. Thank you to Jax Curtin, our Reflections representative, for our Reflections submission box, which can be found in the front entranceway of Locust. Have your children drop off their submissions any time this month so they can participate in this district-wide and national competition. Please remember to complete the Entry Form that can be found at this link, along with details about submission requirements: https://gardencitypta.org/reflections
The Beautification Committee, led by Lindsay Weber and Kristin George, will be decorating the outside of the school for the Fall season so please keep an eye out on your inbox for how you can provide donations to assist. We hope you and your children enjoy it!
Thank you to everyone who supported our Fall fundraiser and purchased Garden City Sportswear this season! You can still buy items at www.gardencitypta.org/sportswear until October 10th. Sportswear pick up will be on Saturday, November 15th from 9-11AM at the Garden City Middle School.
Lastly, thank you to all of the parent volunteers for their hard work organizing a successful Photo Day for Locust! Your children should be receiving their proofs in the next few weeks. Should you wish to have a retake of your child’s photo, you can do so on Photo Make-Up Day, on Friday, November 14th.
