HAPPY FALL HOMESTEAD
It was wonderful to see everyone at Homestead’s Back to School Night. I hope you enjoyed connecting with teachers and fellow parents while visiting the classrooms. We all appreciate our phenomenal teachers and class parents for providing valuable information as well as organizing the class lists and lotteries.
Thank you to those able to attend SEPTA’s general meeting. Look out for upcoming meetings throughout the year. We look forward to seeing you at Homestead’s PTA meeting on Tuesday, October 14th at 9:30AM and All Schools PTA meeting on Wednesday, October 15th at 7:30PM.
Homestead’s Storybook Character Parade is on Friday, October 31st, at 10:30AM. All students are invited to wear costumes to school and parents/caregivers can watch the parade on Stratford Avenue. See the Family Fun Committee update below for our Homestead’s Happy Howl-O-Ween (previously the Jack O’Lantern Jubilee).
COMMITTEE UPDATES
Family Fun
The Family Fun Committee, led by Daniela Saka and Nicole Barrese, are very excited to host Homestead’s annual Homestead’s Happy Howl-O-Ween (formerly Jack O'Lantern Jubilee) on Friday, October 31st. All parents/caregivers are invited to participate in activities with our students. The committee will be sending around a sign up genius seeking donations and volunteers to help make the event as festive and fun as possible.
Beautification
The Beautification Committee, led by Lindsey Finneran and Lindsay Loos, will be decorating the school for Fall and are asking for donations. Thank you for helping us make Homestead beautiful!
Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. This year’s theme is “I Belong!” and the program is open for submissions until Wednesday, November 5th. Thank you to Homestead’s Reflections Rep, Daniela Saka, for decorating our submission box, which can be found in the main lobby of Homestead. Entries can be submitted online (except Visual Arts) or physically dropped off in our Reflections box. Entry form and submission requirements here - don’t forget your artist statement and remember to sign your form.
PARP is excited to share another journey of literature and reading with children this year with the theme “I Belong!” Keep a look out for upcoming events with fun activities like Elementary Movie Day in November, Spotlight on the Library in January, Reading Week in March, GC Pen Pals in April, and Book Ninjas in June.
This month’s Health and Safety initiative is allergy awareness with the Teal Pumpkin Project. Keep an eye out this month for a display for information and allergy-friendly Halloween ideas in the main entryway of Homestead. Target link to Teal Pumpkin Bucket on display for those interested in creating an allergy-friendly option. Keep a look out for an email from Health and Safety on how to donate to help replenish our Indoor Recess Bins in preparation for the upcoming inclement weather days.
The Digital Citizenship Committee sent out an email via class parents, asking you to join the Wait Until 8th movement by pledging to delay purchasing a smartphone for your child until the end of 8th Grade.

Photo Day was a huge success thanks to all our Photography Committee members that volunteered their morning. Student proofs should be arriving in the next few weeks. Photo Make-Up Day is on Friday, November 14th for any students that were absent or require a retake. If you have any questions or concerns about proofs or photos, please contact the district Photography Chair, Stephanie Cohen, at photography@gardencitypta.com.
Homestead showed an amazing amount of support during Spirit Week! We had a special visit from our high school student athletes and band and each student received a Garden City foam visor. Thank you to Homestead’s Spirit Committee, led by Gia McCrossen and Lindsay Loos, for organizing and distributing the spirit shirts and foam visors. Special thank you to everyone who assisted with the PTA float.
