The Garden City PTA is
looking for interested parents to volunteer for aiding in the interview process
of our distinguished school district. The Garden City School District is
unique in that it invites parents to serve on interview committees.
Serving on an interview committee is an exceptional opportunity for parents to
have a distinct voice in the school district’s hiring of teachers and
administrators--those persons who are directly responsible for the safety and
education of our children every day. The office of the Assistant
Superintendent for Personnel convenes interview committees throughout the
school year comprised of parents, teachers, and building administrators.
They represent the initial phase of the district’s hiring process. Generally,
these Interview committees meet immediately after school, Mondays through
Thursdays, beginning at approximately 3:15 or 3:30. An interview
committee generally meets 1-2 days, about 2-3 hours per day. The Garden
City PTA expects parents to commit to the entire interview session if possible.
No interviewing
experience is necessary. The district offers Interview Training Workshops
every year, usually in January. For your convenience, you can attend
sessions in the evening or during the day. Attendance at one of the
training workshops is highly recommended, but not required, prior to
service. The district training workshop addresses question development
and techniques. Sample questions are also available from the PTA
Interview Coordinator or your school PTA Director. The PTA will notify
all parents of the training dates/times for this year. Please
contact Colleen Tariche at fatariche@yahoo.com if you would like to volunteer
to serve on an interview committee. Thank you for volunteering for the PTA and
we hope you will be able to participate in this worthwhile endeavor.
