Student Achievement Report

On Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 7:30pm the school district will host its annual Student Achievement Report at Garden City High School. This report, presented by Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Teresa Prendergast, will provide Garden City residents with valuable information about how our students perform on the 2011 state assessments, AP exams, Regents exams, the SAT and ACT, SAT subject tests and the WRAP test. In addition graduation statistics, longitudinal student performance data trends and comparisons at the local and state level will be presented.  more

Parent: Too many tests, not enough term papers

This was written by Wendy Lecker, a parent of three children in Stamford, Connecticut’s public schools (two in high school). Stamford’s school system is diverse and has made strides in improving curriculum and reducing in-school segregation, Lecker says, but there is a great deal of pressure to raise test scores, which “tends to result in scripted curricula that often ignore the skills all children need to succeed.”  more

GC Pride Membership

NEW Membership Level - This year there is a new level of membership offered - GC Pride Membership. This new level is offered for anyone that would like to show additional support for the GCPTA. The name GC Pride was chosen because it ties in nicely with the district's and PTA's efforts to raise spirit and pride in the community. The GC Pride membership is $50.00 and includes up to two memberships for the year plus a GCPTA double insulated acrylic tumbler and a reflective sport pack. FYI: The district wide Spirit Day is October 14th!  more
