“As partners in education, parents have certain rights and responsibilities. Parents’ rights include … to be encouraged and assisted to participate in educational decision making… Parents’ responsibilities include:…to take part in school and community programs that empower parents to participate in making educational decisions.”
- A New Compact for Learning

In 1994, the Education Commissioner mandated that school districts across New York State involve parents in school-based planning and decision-making at the district and individual building level.
Site Based representatives work with the school PTA Directors to address parents’ issues and concerns and report at the individual schools PTA meetings. It is the responsibility of the Site Based representatives to be accessible and accountable to its constituents (the parents).

Stratford Site-Based Initiatives
The Stratford Site-Based Team will be sponsoring Stratford's first annual Career Day event on January 19th and 20th. We are inviting parents to provide 20 minute interactive presentations about their careers to the Stratford students. The goal is to inspire students to see the value in learning, pursuing their dreams, and overcoming obstacles. See the
flyer for more information and application. If you have any further questions please contact PTA Site-Based Committee members Maria Arianas at mariaarianas@gmail.com or Trish Lynch at jandtlynch@verizon.net.
