PARP 2019 Newsletter Update & Survey

We celebrated PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) with our K-5 schools during March. Thank you to the PARP committee, comprised of parents, teachers and administrators, for organizing an exciting program that promotes the love of reading! Our K-5 students read an impressive 488,945 minutes during the two week event. Some highlights of the program include:
  • Elementary Movie Day - On a day off from school, 400 elementary school families enjoyed a screening of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at the Herricks Movie Theater.
  • Pajama Literacy Night - 150 primary students and their parents enjoyed a fun evening of literacy games and bedtime stories, all dressed in their favorite pajamas.
  • Jonathan Kruk, Master Storyteller - Oral Storyteller, Jonathan Kruk, captivated our students with his incredible tales. Visit his website for storytelling games to play at home:
  • GCHS Performing Arts Readers - It was a real treat for our primary and elementary students to have our high schoolers read I’m NOT Just a Scribble and then complete an art project!
  • One School, One Book - Our kids loved reading the newly released book, The Good Egg by Jory Jon.
  • Book Fairy Book Drive - Thanks to the incredible generosity of our families, over 60 boxes of books were donated.
Believe it or not, the planning for next year is already underway. Please take a few minutes to complete this brief survey so we can capture your feedback to make next year’s program even better!
