Hemlock School PTA Accomplishments

Your support of PTA through your annual membership and participation in our fundraising effort means so much to Hemlock School and all the schools in Garden City.

Here is a list of just some of what we accomplished for the 2016-2017 school year:

  • Held five informational PTA meetings, educating our parents on a variety of topics: Valerie Pfundstein came to our school to read and discuss her book with parents; Ms. Gina Della Penna, mindfulness and dealing with anxiety in children; PARP Presentation by Ms. Jean Ricotta and Mrs. Donna Kraus; Early Start Time Task Force Presentation; Mrs. Bellovin and Dr. Cannone presented on the importance of cooking with your child. 

  • Published monthly newsletters, keeping the parents and Hemlock community informed on the happenings at school.

  • Facilitated with the help of our wonderful class parents, Back to School Night activities.
  • Sponsored Valerie Pfundstein author visit for all students in celebration of Veterans’ Day.

  • Co-sponsored with SEPTA: Differentiated Learning evening presentation

  • Facilitated the National PTA Reflections, What’s Your Story? We were proud of all the children including our Hemlock School Winners.

  • Co-sponsored with our community partners, Parent University, an evening of parenting workshops.

  • Co-sponsored and planned PARP events during the month of March.

  • Sponsored the First Grade Cultural Trip to Kupferberg Center: Earthbeats.

  • Sponsored Little Lotus Yoga Program for all Locust students.

  • Sponsored supplies for the amazing Hemlock Garden

  • Sponsored through a PTA Grant – materials to support the district's STEAM initiatives for classroom use; six Osmo units and six iPad air units.

  • Sponsored through a PTA Grant the purchase of a Smart Board M680 with a projector to enhance the educational experience of math pull out lessons for general education and special education students.
  • Organized and sponsored the printing of the First Grade Memory Books at the primary level.
  • Hosted, along with our Hemlock Families, a thank you staff appreciation luncheon.
  • Attended fire and safety drills, participating in district Health & Safety and Site-Based meetings.

  • Attended meetings of the PTA Curriculum Committee with district administration.

Helped all around Hemlock School

  • Organized and staffed our two Photo Days.

  • Helped organize Spirit Day Rally and distribute shirts/boom sticks
  • Assisted with Hemlock’s support of Hofstra’s Student Veterans Organization and collected items for troops overseas.  Hemlock families provided six boxes full of toiletries, socks, holiday items to Eric Schmidt who personally shipped them to the troops.
  • Organized the Indoor Recess, Chess, and Library volunteer schedules for the year.
  • Facilitated Hemlock’s Box Top program for the school.
