Garden City PTA and Garden City SEPTA Awards to High School Seniors (Senior Awards)
The PTA and SEPTA Senior Awards are intended to recognize students for demonstrating excellence in at least one of the following categories:
1. Commitment to school, friends, group, ideal, or project.
2. Perseverance through adversity, a positive attitude and ability to bounce back.
3. Inspiration to do extraordinary, to create the unexpected or to surprise.
4. Love of Learning or an appetite to learn, discover and help others learn.
Students are nominated by administrators, teachers, and/or guidance counselors with the final selection of students’ eligible to receive an award made by the High School Awards Committee. Academic performance may be considered but is not a necessary requirement for student selection.
Since 2009 the PTA and SEPTA have awarded $120,000 to deserving high school seniors. The Garden City PTA has contributed approximately $10,000 per year to this recognition program since the Senior Awards inception.
NYS PTA Honorary Life Award
The purpose of this award is to recognize individuals for their contributions to the welfare of children and youth.
The Garden City PTA awards an Honorary Life Award Membership to individuals as recognition of their distinguished service to Garden City’s children and youth. Recipients receive the recognition they so greatly deserve at our Annual PTA Dinner. In addition, they receive a Life Membership pin, congratulatory card, and an Honorary Life Member card. New York State PTA Teacher Fellowship for Graduate Study in Memory of Richard Gazzola Award (the Teacher Fellowship)
The Teacher Fellowship was established in 1961 to “encourage excellent teachers to stay in the classroom by providing an opportunity for them to improve their teaching skills, update their professional knowledge, and expand their professional perspectives.” Recipients receive up to $3,000 to help pay for education courses to further their studies. Youth Humanitarian Award - In Memory of Stanley Marcus
The Stanley Marcus Award is presented to high school junior or senior students who best exemplify the humanitarian principles of Stanley Marcus who died in 1977 while serving as third vice president of the New York State Congress of Parents and Teachers. He will always be remembered for his humanitarianism and dedication to youth through zealous volunteer community service. Since PTA is a volunteer organization, we believe that it is only fitting that we should honor such service by our young people through the sponsorship of this award. SCOPE Education Services Awards
SCOPE Education Services, founded in 1964, is a private, not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization, permanently chartered by the New York State Board of Regents to provide services to school districts in New York State. Services offered to local school districts include programs for educators, parents, and children.
The SCOPE Awards are presented only to select individuals who have contributed outstanding service to our students and our school community. PTA volunteers who have received this recognition: Beth Spirakis (2017), Michelle Kaiserman (2016), and Beth Kramer (2012).
